Girls Rock! Rochester is dedicated to using music as a vehicle for personal growth and positive change for girls, women, and the LGBTQ+ community. Year-round, GR!R works hard to create inclusive learning environments where adults and youth who are gender marginalized are empowered to express themselves through our strengths-based, collaborative music learning.

Why work specifically to empower girls and LGBTQ+ youth? Low self-esteem and confidence in girls—not to mention extremely high depression rates for LGBTQ+ youth—are heavily documented and have horrible lifelong impacts. Social justice-focused arts education and confidence-building youth programs are some of the strongest tools we have in the face of those outcomes.
