Amplified Teen Voices

Girls Rock! Rochester is now recruiting for 2020-2021 Amplified Teen Voices, a committee of teens who serve to amplify GR!R’s message throughout our community! Apply online.

Who Can Apply?

Amplified Teen Voices (ATV) is GR!R’s teen leadership program. The group consists of girls and lgbtq+ youth in grades 7–12 who have participated in at least one of our summer camps, and are committed to amplifying GR!R’s mission in our community and beyond.

  • Build strong peer-to-peer relationships with like-minded teens interested in music, the arts, leadership, and activism.
  • Assist GR!R in building action-oriented, relevant, youth-driven programming.
  • Connect and work with youth leaders from other area organizations.
  • Provide a crucial voice in how GR!R works with youth and our direction as an organization.
  • Work with experienced mentors to expand leadership skills.
  • Exploring the more technical side of music and equipment, including how to fix, maintain, and build musical gear.
  • Act in a leadership role during our summer and year-round youth programming.

Important Dates

Membership in ATV requires a completed application; written agreement to your responsibilities as an ATV member; attendance at the bi-monthly meetings; providing representation at two community events over the course of the year; and active promotion of GR!R in your school and community.

When and Where?

Terms run Oct 1, 2020 to May 1 2021. ATV will meet every other Tuesday from 6:30–7:30PM online, and we’ll transition to an in-person format when it’s safe to do so.

What is the registration process?

What technology do members need?

To be able to participate in Amplified Teen Voices, members will need:

  • A computer or tablet that can connect to the internet that can be used from 6:30pm – 7:30pm Oct 1 - May 1.
  • A internet connection with a minimum bandwidth of 600kbps. Run a test of your connection speed here.
  • A modern internet browser such as Safari, Chrome, or Firefox.

All activities will be browser-based (meaning members won’t have to download other programs or apps). Members will receive passwords and unique logins to access ATV materials and sessions.

What online safety precautions are being taken?

All activities will be conducted in a browser, meaning members won’t have to download other programs or apps. The websites and online tools used for ATV comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Rule (COPPA).

Trained staff will be present in all live sessions to ensure member safety, and they will monitor material that is shared by members on the atv webpages.

All members and staff will sign a safety and security agreement that outlines prohibited activities related to data use, social media, and technology use.

Is this just for girls?

Nope! Amplified Teen Voices is open to cis and trans girls, non-binary youth, and other trans and gender expansive young folks, regardless of race, class, sexual orientation, ethnicity, size and/or ability.

Do I need experience before applying?

Yes. Ideally you should have attended at least one of our programs prior to applying. Exceptions may be made for the right candidate.
