In 2023, Girls Rock Rochester continued its empowering journey, fostering a supportive community for young aspiring musicians to grow their confidence and uncover their limitless potential.
It is a priority to grow our channel so that those others may pursue and grow their musical ambitions, all while finding comfort in celebrating their individualism. Our space is one that empowers and lifts; that motivates wellness, self love, creativity, and that is passionate about establishing stronger support systems at home.
In our second year of year round programming, GR!R made strides to bridge and foster connections with other local non-for-profits such as Compeer Rochester, Homesteads for Hope, Villa of Hope, ROCcovery Fitness, Geva Theater, as well as Fairport Library, Central Library of Monroe County, and Brockport Library.
Community collaboration has proven powerful in that it celebrates each organization’s strengths, purpose, and drive to better our community. Most importantly, it further extends the opportunity for our shared demographic to have ongoing access to people and places within our community that share a common passion of providing a safe, supportive environment that encourages positive wellness, mentorship, and personal growth.
The connective nature and force of music is undeniably one of life’s divine gifts that we pride ourselves in and are very grateful to share.
In 2024, we have many exciting new ventures ahead, including a new Adult program, titled “Caregivers Rock Camp,” and a new Music, Art and Literature fair in the spring. Late Spring, we also look forward to bringing back our youth Queer Prom for a second year. Applications for our Summer Youth Music Camps launch March 1st, and our camps will be returning to MCC’s Downtown Campus July 29th- August 7th.
Keep tuned into our social media and website for all additional monthly workshops and community collaborations, and we look forward to rocking out with you all again soon.
Thanks for a beautiful year and your continued support,
Amanda Ashley – GR!R Program Director

We’re a nonprofit organization in Rochester that uses musical creation, collaboration, and performance as tools for cultivating self-confidence in girls and LGBTQ+ youth. Our programs include Girls Rock! Camp, Pride Rock Camp, Rock Roulette (program for adults), Amplified Teen Voices (teen leadership program), as well as year-round workshops in our accessible space at the Village Gate. We also developed a virtual musical creation experience called R.O.C. Studio in place of in-person camp during Summer 2020.

Applications are due February 10, 2021.
We plan to conduct interviews and notify applicants by early March 2021.
The Girls Rock Camp Alliance’s Points of Unity state: “Our work is a direct attempt to amplify voices that have otherwise been told to be silent. Music, art, and creative expression are our tools in building a loud, celebratory, and formidable movement. We do not use these tools by accident; we use them because music and creative expression are accessible, community-based, collaborative, and political.” It’s time to educate ourselves, donate, march, vote, and stay engaged. We know that our conversations about race and systemic racism can, and should, happen with our youth.

GR!R relies on the generosity of a vast community of supporters to bring camp to girls, queer youth, and trans youth every summer. We value our partnerships with businesses who believe in the power of music to impact a young person’s life. Sponsoring a week of camp is a way for your business to contribute to this mission and to advertise for your business. We offer several sponsorship levels but no matter what the size, your sponsorship will make rock’n’roll dreams come true.
